Emmanuel Onwubiko, the Executive Secretary of the Human Rights Writers Association (HURIWA), has been described as as hypocrite whose activities are mostly motivated by material inducement rather than public good.

Coalition of Civil Society Groups for Peace, Security, Good Governance, Equity and Justice (CCSG-PSGEJ) made the observation in a press statement signed by Comrade James Okoronkwo, National Coordinator of the coalition and sent to Nationwide Reports.

The coalition was reacting to a statement recent credited to HURIWA and signed by Onwubiko nationwide reports and signed by hereby castigates Emmanuel Onwubiko, in which the Association blamed Dangote Refinery for the increase in the cost of petrol in Nigeria..

Describing HURIWA’s statement as malicious and intellectually dishonest, the coalition expressed worry that the association has transformed from rights group into an instrument of blackmail and cash and carry instrument available to the highest bidder.

According to the coalition, “It is now clear to the Nigerian public that HURIWA has transformed from a rights group into a Notorious Blackmail Hub where the conscience of advocacy is sold to the highest bidder and in this case, specifically the petrol Import Cabal who are desperate to sabotage Nigeria’s energy independence.”

Going further, the coalition invited Nigerians to note the dizzying inconsistency of Emmanuel Onwubiko, recalling that in October 2025, HURIWA issued a passionate statement in which he described Dangote Refinery as a National Asset that must be shielded from sabotage by labour unions.

“Today, in March 2026, the same Onwubiko is calling it a “satanic monopoly,” it stated

“What changed? Not the refinery, but the “Logistics” from his paymasters. A man who praised an institution in October only to attack it in March has no moral standing to speak for the Nigerian people. He is not a “Comrade,” he is a ‘Serial Blackmailer without a conscience,” the coalition further said.

It said that “Onwubiko’s attempt to blame a local refinery for price fluctuations is a display of gross economic illiteracy. As of today, March 23, 2026, global crude prices have surged past $110 per barrel due to the ongoing Middle East conflict. To blame Aliko Dangote for a global war is the height of mischief. HURIWA’s silence on the trillions wasted by moribund NNPC refineries while attacking the only functional one in the country confirms their role as agents of economic sabotage.

“By labeling the refinery a “monopoly,” Onwubiko is effectively campaigning for the return of Dirty Fuel imports. He is doing the dirty work for those who have bled Nigeria dry for 30 years. We challenge Onwubiko to declare his funding sources for these coordinated attacks, as his “Rights Advocacy” has clearly become a shield for Media Extortion.

“The CCSG-PSGEJ warns the Nigerian media to treat HURIWA’s statements as “Paid-for Blackmail” rather than news. We further call on the Security Agencies to investigate the recent bank inflows of HURIWA’s leadership, as inciting the public against a N20 Billion Dollar national security asset during a global crisis is an act of Economic Insurgency.

“Nigeria cannot be built on the foundation of blackmail. We stand with the Dangote Refinery and all genuine reformers. We will continue to expose “Professional Comrades” like Onwubiko who trade in lies and national instability for personal gain”the coalition concluded.
