Attempted terror attack on Atiku politically motivated, says PDP as party demands investigation

Nigeria’s main opposition, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suggested that an attempted terror attack on its presidential candidate in the disputed 2023 general election, Atiku Abubakar was politically motivated.
It would be recalled that a man seeking to confirm the residence of the former vice president on Sunday, was apprehended at the gate of the residence and later handed over to the police. Upon further interrogation by the Police, the suspect identified himself as a 29 year-old Jubrila Mohammed and confessed to being a Boko Haram member from Damboa in Borno State.
The suspect also informed the Police that he and his colleagues, who were later arrested too, intended to attack organisations associated with Atiku Abubakar and some other sensitive locations in Yola. The four were subsequently handed over to military authorities for further investigation.
But reacting to the incident, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, PDP National Publicity Secretary, in a statement said the attempted attack and confession of the arrested assailants, has the mark of sponsored attempt on the life of Atiku Abubakar, adding that it was plotted by forces who are unsettled by his bid to retrieve his mandate at the Presidential Election Petition Court (PEPC).
The statement said- “Our Party believes that the intent of the sponsors of this evil plot is to silence our Presidential Candidate, massacre innocent Nigerians and cause chaos, confusion and anarchy in the polity.
“The PDP asks, is this foiled attack on Atiku Abubakar and sensitive locations in Yola, Adamawa connected to the recent APC’s threats of chaos and anarchy in the country, if the PEPC upholds the clear provisions of Section 134 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) with regard to the mandatory and statutory requirements for which a Candidate in a Presidential election can be declared winner?
“Could it also be a plan to orchestrate a sense of insecurity in the country, starting in Adamawa State, the home State of our Presidential Candidate so as to justify the imposition of a State of Emergency in Adamawa State as a precursor to a declaration of a State of Emergency throughout the country?
“Our Party charges the Inspector General of Police to take the lead provided by the confession of the assailants to track down their sponsors and bring them to book in the interest of the security, unity and wellbeing of our nation.
“The Federal Government has a duty and obligation to Nigerians and indeed, the whole world to ensure that the perpetrators of these dastardly act and their sponsors are brought to book. This particular investigation is important to the country because of the scope and dimension of the attempted attack.
“The PDP also calls on security agencies to tighten security around Atiku Abubakar and members of his family at this critical time in our democratic process.
“Our Party commends the collaborative effort of the vigilant people of Yola, Adamawa State and security agencies in foiling the attack while urging Nigerians to remain calm and alert as the authorities commence investigation to fish out those behind this evil plot,” the PDP said.

Zulum unveils 375 tractors, 351 implements to boost agriculture in Borno

Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Zulum, on Sunday, unveiled 375 tractors with the aim of agriculture and food production in the state
The tractors before the Sunday event, had undergone full refurbishing by the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI) under the National Assets Recovery, Refurbishment and Redeployment Project (Asset Restore Project).
The ceremony which had Vice President Kashim Shettima in attendance, took place at the Borno State Agricultural Mechanisation Authority (BOSAMA) headquarters in Maiduguri.
Shettima commended Governor Zulum, stating, “My greatest commendation to the Governor of Borno State for his commitment to providing leadership in the state.”
He also praised NASENI for its commitment to enhancing Nigeria’s agricultural productivity through innovative infrastructure support under its asset restoration programme.
“We have seen NASENI at work, playing critical roles in our interventions in compressed natural gas (CNG) retrofitting, renewable energy technologies, and agricultural mechanisation. We are reminded more than ever that we can’t create durable Nigerian solutions to Nigerian problems unless we localise global technologies and relevant agencies must be supported to point us towards a stable nation and a promising future,” the Vice President said.
Speaking earlier, Governor Zulum acknowledged the Vice President’s numerous interventions in the agricultural mechanisation of Borno during his tenure as Governor of Borno State from 2011 to 2019.
He said, “Let me bring to the kind notice of this gathering that these tractors were procured by my predecessor, Senator Kashim Shettima, when he was the Governor of Borno State. He procured 1000 tractors and their implements.”
The Governor added, “He did not stop at that, but he also procured 250 units each of groundnut diggers, fertiliser broadcasters, rotovators, bailers and 25 units of combined harvesters. At a time when it would have been politically safe to focus only on short-term interventions, he chose instead to make a long-term investment in the future of our people.”
Speaking separately, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari and the Vice Chairman/CEO of NASENI, Khali Sulieman Halilu, commended Governor Babagana Umara Zulum for the leadership he has provided.
Also, 351 units of implements procured by the administration of Professor Babagana Umara Zulum were equally commissioned.
The implements according to Borno State Commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources, Engr Bawu Musami, comprise 121 units of disc ploughs, 180 units of disc harrows, grain threshers, rotary slashers and 6-cubic-meter diesel tankers.

Adeboye: God said my firstborn would die if I leave RCCG

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG),, has said that God once gave him a stern warning never to leave the denomination, or face the death of his firstborn.
He shared this revelation during the June edition of the Holy Ghost Service, titled “Destined for Greatness (Part 2),” held in the early hours of Saturday at the Redemption City of God in Ogun State.
While speaking on the theme of divine direction and spiritual steadfastness, Adeboye referred to a message earlier delivered by his son, Pastor Leke Adeboye. He expressed concern over a growing trend among young Christians who frequently switch churches, often introducing themselves as first-time visitors in every new place they attend.
Recalling his own journey of faith, Adeboye said that when he became born again, several thriving ministries were popular and attractive at the time. Despite the appeal, he said God specifically instructed him to remain in RCCG.
“When I got born again, there were three major ministries that were making waves, and they were very good. There were different temptations to go from one to another,” he said. “But God said to me, ‘Son, I brought you here. This is where you will stay. The day you leave this denomination, your firstborn will die.’”
He noted that at the time, RCCG was relatively obscure, with its headquarters located in a modest building in Ebute-Metta, Lagos. Even though he was a university lecturer, he said God commanded him to serve under his spiritual mentor, who had no formal education.
“I was a lecturer at the university. My father in the Lord didn’t go to secondary school, not even primary,” he said. “But God said this is where you will stay.”
Pastor Adeboye urged young believers to seek divine direction and remain where God places them, rather than chasing trends or personal preferences.
“Discover where God wants you to stay, and stay there,” he advised.
He also clarified that his message was not intended to suggest that RCCG is superior to other Christian denominations.
“I am not saying we are better than any other denomination,” the cleric said.
