Not less than 370 top officers of the Nigerian Hunters and Forest Security Service (NHFSS) on Sunday successfully completed a four-day intensive leadership training workshop organised by the management of the Service in collaboration with the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC.

The training workshop which focused mainly on acquisition of leadership skills and organisational management, took place at the NSCDC Academy located along Airport road, Sauka, Abuja.

This is coming as the Commander General of the Service, Dr. Wole Joshua Osatimehin promoted some officers who he said distinguished themselves while serving with commitment, diligence and patriotism.

The beneficiaries of the four-day capacity building workshop were from the ranks of Assistant Commanders, Commanders, Assistant Commanders General, ACG, and Deputy Commander General DCG, including the Commander General, CG, of NHFSS.

Speaking during the workshop, Osatimehin said the essence of the training workshop was to enhance the capacity of NHFSS operatives to render better quality service to the public. A

Ambassador Osatimehin, who said the training would be continuous, stated that the move would also go a long way in enhancing the productivity of officers and men of NHFSS towards strengthening the security of lives and property, especially in forests across the country.

While reiterating his commitment to training and retraining of officers and men of NHFSS, the Commander General explained that the capacity workshop was also to enable the service to contribute to the realization of President Bola Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda in the area of security.

“Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has over the years been rendering necessary security training to NHFSS to enable the service to be abreast of current strategies on intelligence gathering, security tips, and modes of conduct, among others, in line with the best international security standards towards safeguarding the country from crimes and criminality, especially in the ungoverned space of the forests nationwide,” he emphasized.

The Commander General therefore advised the participants to apply what they have learned during the four-day capacity-building workshop to their state commands and structures by replicating the gains of the training on their junior officers, especially in the 774 local government areas, towards realizing the objectives of the workshop.

While speaking to the media, the Deputy Commander General of the Service in charge of Technical Services, Dr. John Metchie, congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his one year anniversary and praised the president and his administration for the successes recorded in the area of security across the country.

Metchie emphasized the importance of training for officers and Men of the NHFSS, saying continuous training and adaptation to evolving trends makes it easier for personnels to be a step ahead of criminal elements in the efforts to safeguard lives, protect national assets and maintain integrity of operations.

In a paper presentation titled, “Effective Report Writing: Incidence and Security Enhancement in the Place of Duty,” a Deputy Corps Commandant in the NSCDC, DCC Emord Sealer, described effective report writing as the key to enhancing security in the country.

He therefore advised beneficiaries of the capacity workshop to reciprocate the gesture through efficiency in their various duty posts.

Also in his paper presentation, “First Aid in the Duty of Service,” a retired military officer, Major General Aro Peters, stressed the need for officers and men of the NHFSS to be aware of what is expected of them during an emergency situation.

Other lectures and paper presentations during the workshop included Dress Code, Discipline, Security Tips, and Identifying Security Threats, among others.

Some of the participants commended the Commander General of NHFSS, Ambassador Osatimehin, and the NSCDC for updating and improving their security knowledge for optimal performance.

They therefore promised to reciprocate the gesture by impacting the gains of the workshop on their colleagues towards realizing the objectives of NHFSS.

The highlight of the workshop was the presentation of certificates to the participants.

As part of the programme, Dr. Osatimehin later promoted some officers of the Service for their gallant performance in curbing crimes, arrest of criminals and intelligence gathering.

Among those promoted are Mmadunaeme Onuorah David, promoted to the position of Commander, Operations and Ofodile Ojukwu Peter who was elevated to the rank of Deputy Commander.

Congratulating the officers on their new ranks, the Deputy Commander General of the Service in charge of Technical Services, Dr John Metchie, said they deserve the recognition and promotion for their exceptional exploits.

He commended CG Osatimehin for the gesture, saying it was capable of motivating officers and Men of the Service to in more efforts towards achieving the objectives of NHFSS.
