P-Square: EFCC says Peter has no evidence his brothers stole $800,000 from him

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has told a Lagos court that it has no evidence to support singer Peter Okoye’s allegation that his brothers — Jude Okoye and Paul Okoye of the defunct group P‑Square — fraudulently withdrew US $800,000 from the group’s accounts.

During resumed cross-examination at the Lagos State Special Offences Court in Ikeja, EFCC’s counsel, Mohammed Bashir, said under oath:

> “We do not have it. It is his evidence. Let him prove it. I can’t give what I don’t have.”

The allegation stemmed from Peter’s 2024 petition accusing Jude of diverting P-Square funds, operating 47 undeclared bank accounts, and manipulating the shareholding structure of their jointly-owned company, Northside Entertainment Ltd..

Peter had testified earlier (May 23, 2025) that new evidence showed Jude and Paul withdrew and shared over $800,000 between March 2023 and October 2024 — a timeline he later revised under cross-examination to 2013–2014. He also alleged Jude operated 47 bank accounts and controlled 80% of Northside.

But with EFCC unable to tender any supporting documents, the potency of those claims has significantly weakened. The court has adjourned proceedings to December 12, 2025, as the case continues.

Nigeria’s security agencies have reportedly uncovered a plan by some opposition politicians to organise protests in Sokoto and other northern states against President Bola Tinubu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu.

Fresh intelligence reports made available to journalists on Friday show that former Senator Kabiru Marafa is the main arrowhead of the plot.

The group is allegedly working to discredit NSA Nuhu Ribadu and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, by falsely linking them to bandit groups and using a Sokoto-based militia to trigger violent protests.

Sources say the Zamfara State Government, led by Governor Dauda Lawal, is strongly backing the plan and providing funding, determined to paint the federal security team as incompetent and force the removal of both Ribadu and Matawalle.

Security operatives detected the scheme this week, monitored several planning meetings in Gusau and Abuja, blocked funding channels, and quietly disrupted the operation.

No arrests have been made, but all the key figures are now under close surveillance.

The key figures are now being monitored by security agencies to track their key sources of funding.
