Azhata, Kurudu, Orozo communities cry to FCT police over influx of bandits, hooligans
By Bonaventure Melah
The FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps and sister agencies, have been called upon to take proactive measures to secure Azhata, Kurudu, Orozo and other communities within the axis following massive influx of criminal elements to the area.
According to information available to Nationwide Reports, score of brigands, including bandits, kidnappers and armed robbers that were mostly displaced from other communities in the FCT, have relocated to Kurudu and Orozo, Karshi, among others where several houses breaking and midnight raids on residents, have been recorded in recent times.
A resident of Azhata who spoke to us on condition of anonymity, said there have been noticable movement of suspicious persons, many of who are armed carrying out criminal surveillance of the area in broad day light and when confronted, they claim to be either herders or hunters.
The source said there have been several incidences of house breaking and midnight raids in Kpeyegi, Kurudu and others in recent times where families have been attacked with guns and other weapons and dispossessed of cash, phones, laptops and other valuable with many injured in the process
Another resident, Angulu Mike said hoodlums arrived his neighbourhood two weeks ago but were prevented from carrying out their plans by the community vigilant members who successfully chased them away. He said the criminals were heavily armed and therefore said the Police should commence night patrol in the area.
“When we were under Jikwoyi Police Division, a patrol van was allocated to us in Azhata and they used to patrol our community every night at least twice. But now that we are under the new Kurudu Division, we urge the DPO to commence night operations and patrol in order to protect our community as our vigilante group may not be able to withstand serious operation by heavily armed criminals.”
Mr. Brendan Uzowuru from Orozo told our correspondent that criminal activities are on the rise in the area including house breaking both in the day and at nights, adding that many household have suffered from robbery incidents.
He called on the Police and NSCDC to direct their focus in the mentioned area while commending the police and others for their efforts in other satellite towns which he said are becoming safer.
“We are aware of the efforts of the police, NSCDC, DSS and other security agencies in flushing out bandits, kidnappers and similar criminal elements in the satellite towns. However, these criminals are now relocating to Azhata, Kurudu, Orozo, Karshi and others communities around us and are carrying out robbery and night raids regularly.
“We therefore call on the security operatives to come to our aid through regular patrols and surveillances by day. Criminal hideouts should be raided to take them out as quickly as possible. Suspicious persons should also be accosted to identify who they are,he said and called on residents to remain vigilant and assist security operatives to identify persons of questionable character as well as report them to the Police.

Anambra debunks story of collapsed govt house structures
Anambra State has described as untrue, story making the rounds on media that some structures at the new government house collapsed on Thursday following rainstorm.
A statement signed by Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Saturday, said the report was false and malicious, saying no structure within the new government house collapsed.
The statement said what was affected was a portion of the barricade barriers constructed outside the government house perimeter fence and attributed the incident to heavy wind that affected many structures across the state including privately owned properties.
The statement reads- “The attention of the Anambra State Government has been drawn to misleading and mischievous reports by a few sections of the media suggesting that “a structure in the new Government House” collapsed due to substandard quality during the heavy rainstorm that occurred on Thursday evening, 9th April, 2026.
“For the avoidance of doubt and to set the records straight, we wish to state categorically that no structure within the Anambra State Government House collapsed. What was affected were a few partitions of the barricade barriers erected outside the Government House, approximately 20 metres away from the perimeter fence.
“The unfortunate incident was as a result of heavy wind and thunderstorms that wreaked havoc across several parts of the state that evening, which also affected property in private homes.
“Meanwhile, the Anambra Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) has already mobilised to the site. Work is ongoing to fully rebuild the damaged sections of the barrier and to introduce additional engineering measures, including the creation of ample space to allow for free flow of heavy wind, in order to prevent future occurrences.
“The Anambra State Government condemns the circulation of fake news on this matter as a deliberate attempt by a few misguided elements to mislead Ndi Anambra and politicise a natural weather event which is not exclusive to Anambra State.
“We urge the general public to disregard the fake news and continue to support the progressive agenda of Mr Governor.”
