Kano State Police Command says the order given by the State Governor, Abba Yusuf to evict deposed 16th Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, would amount to ‘jumping the gun’ if carried out.

The Command therefore said it would not carry out the Governor’s order as it stands presently.

Rather than evict the deposed Emir, security was on Friday, beefed up around the  Nasarawa palace where he is staying.

Governor Yusuf had on Thursday night, through the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Haruna Dederi, directed the police commissioner to remove the deposed Emir from the Nasarawa mini palace.

But the state Commissioner of Police, Usaini Gumel, told newsmen on Friday that obeying the directive of the governor would be tantamount to “jumping the gun.”

He emphasised that the government had filed a case at the state High Court regarding the eviction bid, which would come up on Monday.

“The government is jumping the gun because the same government has filed a case on the eviction order, which is coming up on the 24th of June, 2024.

“Therefore, if we carry out the order, it is like we are preempting the court because we don’t know what will happen at the court,” he noted.

Following the ruling of a federal high court which nullified the reinstatement of Sanusi Lamido to the position of Kano Emir, there has been heavy security presence on all roads leading to the Nasarawa palace where deposed Emir Ado Bayero is currently staying.

In addition, hundreds of people believed to be loyal to the deposed emir have been trooping in and out of the place, believing that the Court of Appeal would eventually restore him as the rightful Emir of Kano.

President Trump has freezed $50m approved by the administration of Joe Biden for ‘Condoms in Gaza.”

Trump team said there was no evidence to back up the claim that such huge amount was being spent to distribute condoms for Gaza residents.

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the expenditure was discovered in Trump’s first week by the new Department of Government Efficiency led by tech billionaire Elon Musk.

Musk’s initiative and the budget office “found that there was about to be 50 million taxpayer dollars that went out the door to fund condoms in Gaza,” Leavitt told her debut press conference.

“That is a preposterous waste of taxpayer money,” she said.

She did not provide more details and it was not immediately possible to verify the account independently.

Felix Morka, the National Publicity Secretary of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, described some opposition leaders in the country as failures who cannot manage their own affairs

Morka also said former presidential candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai were incompetent persons.

In a statement, Morka said Nigerians can’t be distracted by desperate politicians looking for relevance ahead of 2027.

He faulted Atiku’s remark of judicial involvement in Nigeria’s electoral matters, stressing that he is the country’s most prolific electoral litigator.

According to Morka: “It is a thing of irony that Atiku, who is Nigeria’s most prolific electoral litigator, would make such a ludicrous claim that judicial involvement in electoral matters is a threat to democracy.

“His criticism of the courts and the electoral process rings hollow given his long history of using the courts to further his political agenda. It’s time for him to take a step back and let the democratic process unfold without his interference.

“Nigeria’s democracy is far stronger than Atiku’s political ambitions. We deserve better than petty politicking and alarmist rhetoric from an elder statesman.

“As a veteran politician, one would expect Atiku to understand that while democracy may be about winning election, it is, more importantly, about respecting the will of the electorate and working towards the greater good of all.

“Atiku should focus on rebuilding his party and offering constructive solutions to Nigeria’s challenges.

“The bizarre suggestion by opposition figures like Atiku, Peter Obi, and recently, aggrieved leaders like Mallam Nasir El-Rufai that our great Party may be complicit in the internal corrosion of opposition parties is pitiful, and only an incompetent alibi for their crass failure to manage their own affairs. They cannot govern their parties but tout their ability to govern Africa’s most populous country.

“As discerning citizens, Nigerians know better than to be distracted by the false alarm and hollow allegations of desperate politicians whose only goal is shore up their political relevance in the build up to 2027 general elections.”
