There is palpable tension and expectations in Kano as the Supreme Court is set to rule today, Friday, January 12, on who is the duly elected governor of the state.

Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and and All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Nasiru Gawuna have been engaged in a legal fights since the governorship election in March of last year.

The five men panel justices of the Supreme Court, in a notice of hearing sent to the warring parties, on Wednesday said the verdict on the anticipated appeal will be given on Friday.

The Court of Appeal had affirmed the verdict of the Kano governorship election petition tribunal that sacked Governor Abba Yusuf, candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) and declared Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as lawfully elected.

The appellate court did not only upheld the tribunal’s verdict but also added that Governor Yusuf was not a member of the NNPP when he contested the election.

The three-man panel led by Justice O. Osadebay had sacked Governor Yusuf on the basis of illegal votes of 165,663, which were not signed, stamped and dated.

Displeased with the concurrent verdicts, Governor Yusuf, NNPP and INEC approached the Supreme court, seeking to dismiss the earlier judgments and reaffirm Yusuf as the duly elected governor.

Subsequently, APC equally filed a cross-appeal challenging the judgment of the Abuja Court of Appeal for failing to disqualify Abba Yusuf, governor of Kano, from contesting the March 18 election over an alleged certificate forgery.

Governor Yusuf is, by his appeal, seeking to upturn the November 17 judgment of the Court of Appeal, which affirmed the September 20 decision of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal voiding his victory in the March 18 electrons.

For six long years, Pratik Joshi lived alone in London—working tirelessly as a software professional, driven by a single dream: to one day build a better, brighter future abroad for his wife and their three little children, who waited patiently back in India.

That day had finally arrived.

After years of late-night calls, visa hurdles, and countdowns marked on calendars, the family was finally reuniting. Just two days ago, his wife, Dr. Komi Vyas, a dedicated medical professional, resigned from her job in India. Their home was packed up, goodbyes were tearfully exchanged, and hearts were full of hope. A new life awaited them. A future they had only imagined was now within reach.

This morning, they boarded Air India flight 171 to London together—as a family. Smiling. Laughing. Pratik clicked a selfie, all five of them framed by airplane windows and dreams, and sent it to relatives:
“We’re finally flying home.”

But they never made it.

The plane crashed.
All five lives—gone.
In an instant.

No warning. No goodbye. Just silence.

What was meant to be a beginning became the end. What was meant to be the first page of a new chapter became the final paragraph of a beautiful, unfinished story.

A father’s relentless effort.
A mother’s sacrifice.
Three innocent children with the whole world ahead of them—
All turned to ash in a moment of unimaginable tragedy.

Copied.
