Many Nigerians in the Diaspora say they have perfected the strategies aimed at wooing investors to support the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s developmental agenda for the country.

This is coming ahead of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, USA,

The concerned Nigerians led by Prof. Tai Balofin- President of Nigerian Progressive Professionals in the Diaspora and Amb. Franklin Abiola Ogunyemi- Trade and Investment representative of the Nigerian Consulate in New York, have set a committee which is working to attract investors.

To that effect, five leading investment summit organizers have joined forces to orchestrate a groundbreaking Economic, Trade, and Investment Summit scheduled to take place in September 2023, concurrent with the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York USA.

The event aims to rally global investments in support of the ambitious agenda set forth by President Tinubu’s administration.

The committee, comprising distinguished members such as Barrister Dotun Israel of Diplomatic Vista, Mr. Babatunde MacAlabi of BYK Ventures Limited, and Prof. Lilian Ore -Ajayi of Silicon Valley Investment Nigeria, shares a unified goal: to harness their collective expertise and resources to create a singular, impactful event that transcends boundaries.

Addressing the collaborative initiative Amb. Lot Egopija, Nigerian Consul General, emphasized the significance of this united endeavour, stating, “It has been determined that we can’t have different summits at different times for the same purpose. The President can’t be everywhere due to protocol and logistics. We need a formidable, united team to organize one extraordinary event.”

As discussions focus on shaping the most effective collaboration proposal and agreement, the organizing committee is actively defining each organizer’s expected contribution to this monumental endeavour. While specifics are currently being refined, the guiding principle is a shared commitment to the summit’s overarching objectives.

The anticipated outcome of this historic collaboration is nothing short of transformative. By consolidating efforts, the organizers seek to pool diverse resources, expertise, and global networks to attract a wider spectrum of investors, drive economic growth, and stimulate sustainable development aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision.

The committee envisions a strategic roadmap to success, centering on a holistic approach to the event’s organization. By integrating the strengths of each organizer and leveraging their respective networks, the summit aims to showcase the potential of Nigeria’s economic landscape and foster partnerships that pave the way for impactful investment initiatives.

Corps member Raye to serve extra 60 days for calling out President Tinubu

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has extended the service year of corps member Rita Ushie, popularly known as Raye on Instagram, by two months for publicly criticising President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

Raye, who had just one month left in her service, gained national attention in March after posting a viral video on TikTok lamenting Nigeria’s worsening economic conditions and describing the Tinubu-led government as “terrible.” She also alleged that NYSC officials threatened her and demanded she take down the video.

The incident sparked outrage among civil rights groups and Nigerians who condemned the NYSC’s response as an attack on freedom of expression.

Following the backlash, Raye was summoned by the NYSC Local Government Inspector to the Eti-Osa office in Lagos. However, when she arrived with her legal team and activist Omoyele Sowore, the official who issued the summons was reportedly absent. The matter soon faded from public discourse.

But on June 18, she was again summoned—this time to the NYSC orientation camp in Iyana Ipaja, Lagos—to face a disciplinary panel. After repeated delays and without a formal notice, she was eventually informed that her service year had been extended by two months as a sanction.

Jonathan Ugbal, South-South Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, said Raye was deeply upset by the decision. “Her mother called me, saying she was crying on the phone after being told of the extension. She’s not in the right frame of mind to speak right now,” he told.
