Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, the founder of Omega Power Ministry (OPM) and traditional ruler of Ikwuorie Autonomous Community in Ohanku – Ndoki, Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State, has been accused of committing unlawful arrest, detention, intimidation, torture, humiliation, and abduction, using operatives of the Nigeria Police.

The OPM founder was accused of perpetrating the illegal acts against Comrade Engr. Nwaji Ifeanyi Kenneth.

The allegations were contained in a petition dated Thursday, 26th February, 2026 and addressed to the Executive Secretary

National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), and submitted at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

It was titled: Petition Against Grave Violation of Fundamental Human Rights, Criminal Abduction, Abuse of Police Power and Continued Persecution of our Client by Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere and the IGP Monitoring Unit; and was signed by Dinne Chukwuemeka Israel Esq, of Green Oak Attorneys.

It stated further that the petition arose from a ‘sustained pattern of harassment, intimidation, unlawful detention, torture, humiliation, and most recently, the abduction of our Client to an unknown destination, orchestrated by Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere the founder of Omega Power Ministry (OPM) and traditional ruler of Ikwuorie Autonomous Community in Ohanku – Ndoki, Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State in active convenivance with officers of the IGP Monitoring Unit.”

The petition was copied to the Acting Inspector General of Police, Tunde Disu and submitted at Louis Edet House, national headquarters of Nigeria Police in Abuja stated that the Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP Monitoring Unit and the team were involved in the illegal acts.

It said- “We are Counsel to the above-named victim, Engr. Nwaji Ifeanyi Kenneth (hereinafter referred to as “our Client”), and on his behalf, we respectfully submit this Petition seeking the urgent intervention of the National Human Rights Commission over persistent, egregious, and life-threatening violations of his constitutionally guaranteed fundamental rights.

“This Petition arises from a sustained pattern of harassment, intimidation, unlawful detention, torture, humiliation, and most recently, the abduction of our Client to an unknown destination, orchestrated by Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere the founder of Omega Power Ministry (OPM) and traditional ruler of Ikwuorie Autonomous Community in Ohanku – Ndoki, Ukwa East Local Government Area of Abia State in active connivance with officers of the IGP Monitoring Unit.

“That sometime prior to the latest incident, Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere, without any court order, lawful warrant, judicial pronouncement, or provocation, unlawfully declared our Client “wanted” and placed a bounty on him. In the community’s WhatsApp platforms, he stated that any person who will provide him with information that will lead to the “capture” of our Client will be well compensated. Kindly find attached a copy of the said publication.

“That upon being cautioned on the implication of such attitude and after he publicly vowed to “deal with” our Client, he procured the IGP Monitoring Unit of the Nigerian Police to issue a letter of invitation titled ‘Re: Criminal Conspiracy, cyber bullying, defamation of character, and threat life’ to our Client. An invitation which we communicated the constraint our Client will have to attend, thereby suggesting any date in mid – January 2026. In an attempt to ensure that they carry out their illicit agenda against our Client, the IGP Monitoring Unit refused and failed to respond to our letter. Attached also is a copy of our said letter. They rather proceeded to track our Client and made an attempt to unlawfully arrest him in Umuahia save for the intervention of the Vice Chancellor of his Institution and he then was given a new date to report at the Force Headquarters.

“Our Client reported at the Force Headquarters on the 17th February 2026 and after investigation and the provision of a reliable surety, the same said Apostle Chibuzor instructed the Commissioner that our Client must be detained as he is bent on dealing with him. The Commissioner and the team did as instructed and ordered the detention of our Client in IRT facility. Immediately they confirmed the detention of our Client to Mr. Chibuzor, he proceeded to circulate his photographs across multiple WhatsApp platforms and social media channels, branding him with dehumanizing and defamatory words such as a “rat” that have been captured thereby exposing him to public ridicule, danger, and reputational destruction. Attached also are copies of these publications.

“That while in detention and acting in apparent abuse of state machinery, officers attached to the IGP Monitoring Unit denied us access to our Client, repeatedly harassed, intimidated, and psychologically tormented our Client at the behest of the said Apostle.

“That after several effort towards the release of our Client, the same said Apostle continued to brag on several platforms that nobody can secure the release of our Client without his approval. He continued to ridicule and humiliate our Client by making subsequent publications with his pictures in several platforms with derogatory statement. These publications are also hereby attached.

“After several efforts, we were able to secure the release of our Client on Friday 20th February 2026. Almost immediately after that, the IPO (Mr. Abayomi Shode) started calling and demanding for the immediate return of our Client to them as Mr. Chibuzor is threatening them and insisting that they must do his bidding. He stated that failure to produce our Client before them will force them to arrest and detain the surety.

“Eventually, our Client who was undergoing treatment at the University of Abuja teaching hospital due to the dehumanization and infections he contracted at the detention facility was driven to the Force Headquarters in the hope that since he was on bail, he would be allowed to go back and continue his treatment, unfortunately this was not the case.

“The whole event took a turn and in an alarming manner when our Client was from there forcefully taken to an unknown destination by these same Police officers who have been acting in concert with the above-named Apostle Chibuzor without disclosure to his family, without formal charges, and without lawful justification — an act that amounts to kidnapping under the guise of law enforcement.

The Petition outlined the legal implications of the alleged illegal actions of Apostle Chinyere Chibuzor, to include expressly constituting violation of the right to dignity of the human person; violation of the right to personal liberty; violation of the right to fair hearing; abuse of police powers; criminal defamation and incitement; unlawful declaration of a citizen as “wanted” without judicial authorization; and use of state security apparatus for private vendetta against our Client.

“It is profoundly disturbing that a unit operating under the authority of the Inspector General of Police is allegedly being weaponized by a private individual to settle personal grievances (though there is obviously no form of provocation on the part of our Client towards Mr. Chibuzor other than our Client being a signatory to a letter written to the same said Mr. Chibuzor asking him to desist from his intention of illicitly imposing himself as the traditional ruler of another Autonomous Community different from his own. A copy of the letter is also attached), thereby eroding public confidence in law enforcement and undermining the rule of law,” it further stated, adding that “No citizen in a constitutional democracy should be reduced to a prey in the hands of those who wield influence over security agencies.”

The petitioner therefore, “as a matter of urgency, and in view of the gravity of the situation,” called upon the National Human Rights Commission to- Immediately intervene and demand the disclosure of our Client’s current whereabouts; Launch a full-scale, independent investigation into the conduct of the officers of the IGP Monitoring Unit involved in this matter; Investigate the role played by Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere in instigating and facilitating these violations; Recommend appropriate disciplinary and criminal proceedings where culpability is established and Ensure adequate protection for our Client pending the outcome of investigations..

In conclusion, the petitioner stated that the matter transcends a private dispute and strikes at the very heart of constitutional governance and the sanctity of human rights in Nigeria.

It stated also that “the apparent conversion of law enforcement machinery into an instrument of personal vendetta must not be tolerated in a democratic society governed by law.

“We trust that the National Human Rights Commission will treat this Petition with the urgency it deserves and take immediate steps to halt the on going violations before irreversible harm is done.”
