After winning biggest ever landslide in Russia’s history, Putin warns of World War 3 if NATO allies enter Ukraine

Election officials on Monday declared Vladimir Putin as the duly elected President of Russia for the fifth term of six years.

The result of the election had Putin scoring the biggest landslide in the country post Soviet union era which underlines his total control of the country’s politics.

It was a massive endorsement of his plan to extend his nearly quarter-century rule for six more years, making him the longest serving Russian leader in over 200 years.

Russia’s Central Election Commission said Monday that with nearly 100% of all precincts counted, Putin had won 87.29% of the vote. Commission chief Ella Pamfilova said nearly 76 million voters cast their ballots for Putin, his highest vote tally ever.

Putin, 71, hailed the overwhelming results as an indication of “trust” and “hope” in him but some critics said the victory was another reflection of the preordained nature of the election.

“Of course, we have lots of tasks ahead. But I want to make it clear for everyone: When we were consolidated, no one has ever managed to frighten us, to suppress our will and our self-conscience. They failed in the past and they will fail in the future,” Putin said at a news conference at his campaign headquarters in Moscow early Monday, hours after the polls closed.

Meanwhile, the Russian strongman has warned of a possible outbreak of 3rd World War if US-led NATI allies decide to stage s direct war with Russia over crisis with Ukraine.

Putin has often warned of the risks of nuclear war but says he has never felt the need to use nuclear weapons in Ukraine.

French President Emmanuel Macron last month said he could not rule out the deployment of ground troops in Ukraine in the future. But many Western countries distanced themselves from that while others, especially in eastern Europe, expressed support.

Asked about the Macron remarks and the risks and possibility of a conflict between Russia and NATO, Putin quipped: “everything is possible in the modern world.”

“It is clear to everyone, that this will be one step away from a full-scale World War Three. I think hardly anyone is interested in this,” Putin told reporters.

Putin added, though, that NATO military personnel were present already in Ukraine, saying that Russia had picked up both English and French being spoken on the battlefield.

“There is nothing good in this, first of all for them, because they are dying there and in large numbers,” he added.
