Gov Ododo: Patrick Adaba was a founding pillar in leadership of Kogi State

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo has praised the leadership role played by the pioneer deputy governor of Kogi State, late Dr. Patrick Adaba.
Ododo therefore called on the Adaba family to extend hands of fellowship, uphold unity, and peace as exemplified by the late elder statesman.
The Governor spoke while attending the burial mass of Dr. Adaba which held at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Okene on Friday.
He described the late journalist and scholar as a founding pillar whose leadership, sacrifice, and dedication shaped the early years and formation of the state.
In his tribute, Governor Ododo emphasized Chief Adaba’s significant role in establishing the state’s administrative and political foundation.
“Pa Late Patrick Adaba is among those that laid the foundation of our dear state, and that foundation was laid for greatness. Today, we have witnessed that greatness and we thank God for his life”, he said.
He noted that Chief Adaba’s contributions began even before the return to democracy in 1999, serving as Secretary to the State Government and later as Deputy Governor under Prince Abubakar Audu, Kogi’s first elected Governor.
“Chief Patrick Adaba was a steady hand during Kogi’s formative years, offering wisdom and calm judgment during challenging times, his legacy of integrity and public service remains deeply etched in our state’s history. Even in retirement, he continued to be a unifying figure and a moral compass for many.”
The Governor also described the departed statesman as a man who carried himself diligently through public service and a role model to many in the state.
Governor Ododo extended heartfelt condolence to the Adaba family, the Ebira community, and the entire Kogi state, praying for eternal rest for the departed statesman and strength for his family through difficult period.

18 cows die after feeding on farmers crop in Plateau community

A total of 18 cows have been found dead after they grazed on a farm in Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State.
A counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama said that 18 cows belonging to some herdsmen died after they grazed on farmland which was fumigated by its owners.
In a post on X, Makama said the incident happened in the Vwei community, Riyom LGA at about noon on Wednesday.
According to residents, the cattle belonging to Dan’azumi Haruna strayed into the fumigated farm.
He wrote, “Seven of the cows were reportedly slaughtered due to contamination, while 11 died on the spot.
“Fifteen other cattle affected by the chemical exposure are currently receiving treatment,” Makama quoted a resident.

Bamise: Killer BRT driver sentenced to death

Bus Rapid Transit driver, Andrew Ominikoron, has been sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Sherifat Sonaike of the Lagos State High Court, sitting at the Tafawa Balewa Square Annexe over the murder of 22-year-old Bamise Ayanwola.
Ominikoron was arraigned on a five-count charge bordering on murder, conspiracy, and rape, in connection with the death of Ayanwola, as well as the sexual assault of Dr. Anosike Victoria and the rape of one Maryland Ojiezelu.
Delivering judgment on Friday, Justice Sonaike ruled that the Lagos State Government, which prosecuted the case, had successfully proved its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
“For the death of Oluwabamise Ayanwola, you will be hanged by the neck until you are dead. May God have mercy upon you,” the judge declared in her pronouncement.
The convict was tried on a five-count charge, including conspiracy, rape, murder, and sexual assault, brought against him by the Lagos State Government.
According to the charges, the incident occurred on February 26, 2022, around 7 pm, near the Lekki-Ajah Conservation Centre, Lekki-Ajah Expressway, Lagos.
The prosecution said that Ominikoron had forcibly had sexual intercourse with Oluwabamise Ayanwole before murdering her.
The offences contravened Sections 411, 223, 260, and 165 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Bamise was last seen on February 26, 2022, after she boarded a BRT bus driven by Ominikoron in the Ajah area of Lagos.
Her disappearance triggered widespread outrage and a city-wide search.
Her body was discovered nine days later on Carter Bridge, Lagos Island.
During the trial, the State called 11 witnesses who testified against the accused.
The convict who opened his defence on October 17, 2024, denied raping nor killing Oluwabamise.

Police arrest VDM

Operatives of the Nigeria Police Force have arrested popular social media personality and influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, known widely as VeryDarkMan (VDM).
The arrest took place in Abuja followinv his public criticism of Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) over alleged unauthorised transactions from his mother’s account.
His lawyer, Barrister Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the development to The Guardian on Friday in Abuja, revealing that officers of the Nigeria Police Force apprehended VeryDarkMan at Area 3 in Abuja.
He said, “VDM arrested by the police at GTB. Spoke to them before he was arrested. This is absolutely unacceptable. Demanding accountability is not a crime.
“A team of policemen arrested VDM at GTB. He was arrested with his friend C Park, but they left his mom alone.”
